Classic: Van Persie wasn’t good enough for Arsenal in this one

Sunday will bring back an old rivalry – once feisty but now friendly.

Indeed, even after the exits of the Vieira’s and Henry’s, the Gunners were still considered bitter foes to the red devils for a while through the talents Fabregas and company but the gap has widened these days.

Anyway, here is a Nike commercial from almost half a decade ago which glorified the two club’s competitive relationship, but as you watch, you may notice how the man who has already made all the headlines for Sunday was not even featured in this famous ad.

VIDEO: Nacho Monreal playing and scoring last weekend

http://estaticos01.marca.com/imagenes/2013/01/31/futbol/equipos/malaga/1359654068_extras_portadilla_0.jpgHe ironically scored his first and only goal for Malaga last weekend in a 3-2 victory over Real Mallorca, but Nacho Monreal is not all about goals at left-back.

And if the saying “you are as good as your last game” is anything to go by, then Arsenal’s new signing was not bad at all the last time he was in action on Sunday.

Indeed, it was a performance which earned him rave reviews, drawing praise from Fox Sports writer Noah Tan, who named Monreal in the La Liga team of the week.

“Malaga had Monreal to thank for their hard-earned win over Mallorca as the former Osasuna player first cleverly set up Isco to score in the 16th minute, then scored a vital winning goal midway through the second half with an unstoppable shot which left goalkeeper Juan Calatayud no chance.” Noah Tan wrote.

“The 26-year-old was a rock at the back for Malaga and demonstrated great bravery to put his body in line of relentless Mallorca fire. Monreal may go home bruised and battered, but he will have every reason to keep his chin up after a fantastic battling defensive display.” Tan added

No it wasn’t!: Bacary clears up ‘Vermaelen fight’ talks

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8076/8283479406_74f196c41d_z.jpgBacary Sagna and Thomas Vermaelen appeared to be engaging in an argument at the Madejski stadium, but the French defender has cleared off matters, claiming he was only reacting to a Reading man instead.

Wenger’s men’s sublime display against Reading put most of their recent turbulence to bed. But for a brief period at full-time, the negativity seemed to be lingering around the Arsenal camp.

Initial observations were that Sagna and Vermaelen were exchanging words after the final whistle due to lapses in defence, but despite having to be pulled away by Kierran Gibbs as he altered words in anger, Arsenal’s right-back insists he was rather speaking to a Reading player who fouled him and not his skipper.

Vermaelen did make a gesture of “calm down” to Sagna in order to avoid building a big scene and Sagna himself moved to quash rumours over a rift with his Belgian teammate by posting the following on his twitter account.

“There is no problem between TV and myself..i was angry as the reading’s player pushed me and walked on me while the ball was out..that’s it”

To their credit, Arsenal’s players did their best to keep the incident quiet. But one person who certainly did not keep quiet over the brief drama was ESPN’s colour commentator Steve Mcmanaman who pointed out the confrontation and joked “it’s good to see really, isn’t it? 5-2 and they are still not happy” – suggesting it was actually a war of words between Sagna and Vermaelen.

Whether Sagna’s final word on twitter was the truth or just an attempt to hide controversy, here is how it all looked on television broadcast.

He’s that good: Even video game proves Gervinho is World Class striker

http://sportsvibe.co.uk/assets/Uploads/SportsVibeNew/_resampled/SetWidth638-Screen-shot-2012-10-31-at-10.03.19.png

Credit to the Gunners for improving their form but if there is one man who sure can fluff his lines whether form is on his side or not, it will be Gervinho.

In 2011, the former Lille man arrived from France with the jury out on him over whether he was good enough to shoulder the responsibility of Arsenal’s attack and in truth, the jury is still out on him.

That is because despite having a purple patch at the start of the season with five goals, the Ivorian’s ability to squander golden opportunities in front of goal has seen a huge dip again in his ratings around the Emirates stadium.

And it looks as the though Gervinho is emulating that form even in video games. The only difference between the real life Gervinho and the one in the FIFA 12 footage below is that he is missing a goal-mouth chance for Ivory Coast this time instead of Arsenal. Other than that, how realistic is this?…

Video Exclusive: Watch Wilshere pulling the strings today for U-21 side at Everton

http://www.independent.co.uk/incoming/article8221795.ece/ALTERNATES/w300/wilshere-4.jpgYou may have heard that Jack Wilshere along with Bacary Sagna were once again in action with the club’s under-21 side in their bid for full match fitness as they defeated Everton earlier today.

The much-awaited return from injury for Arsenal’s midfielder has meant that every outing for the club’s youngsters has been under the spotlight more than ever.

And so for the many who are curious about how the show looked at Everton’s Finch Farm on Monday, Red London gathered some scarce footage of the 2-1 victory which came through a brace from promising January signing Thomas Eisfield.

At this progressive rate, Jack Wilshere is likely to be included again in the squad which hosts Schalke 04 in the Champions League on Wednesday.

GOAL!: Oxlade-Chamberlain scores historic goal for England

http://www.talksport.co.uk/sites/default/files/imagecache/ts_news_article_header_image/AOC_2.jpg

Theo Walcott – who withdrew from Friday’s match with a concerning rib injury – may return from international duty with some bad news, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will not.

The 19-year-old has finally netted his first goal for England in a resounding victory over San Marino. Following the footsteps of his father who also scored for England during his career, that goal from ‘the Ox’ went down in history as the first time a father and son had netted for the three lions.

Arsenal’s ace has now done as much his dad did in his country’s colours. That is eight caps and one goal.

If you want to know the type of player Nuri Sahin is…

http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3pwwhvWYP1rqd8rho1_1280.jpgArsenal are at this moment working on completing a deal with Real Madrid for their out-of-favour midfielder Nuri Sahin.

The proposed season-long loan move could see the Turkish ace arrive at Arsenal next week to patch up the midfield void left by Barcelona-bound Alex Song.

So what exactly does Sahin, voted the Bundesliga’s best player in 2011, play like?

Well watch the quality of his passing and tackling below and you may find out a little more about Nuri.

Video: Van Persie’s LAST appearance in an Arsenal shirt

http://images.football365.com/12/08/800x600/Robin-van-Persie_2812085.jpgAfter both Arsenal and Manchester United confirmed an agreement to transfer Robin van Persie to Old Trafford yesterday, the curtain was finally closed on the Dutchman’s eight-year career as a Gunner.

And so, his cameo in Sunday’s match against FC Cologne will now go down as his last appearance as an Arsenal player. After watching the short clip below, please share your thoughts on the prospect of seeing Van Persie in a Manchester United shirt on Monday when they play Everton.

Santi Cazorla: Welcome to Arsenal?

Well, well, well, how about this 27-year-old midfield orchestrator to finally replace Cesc Fabregas and bring back the creativity that Arsenal once had…because Jack Wilshere is not coming back anytime soon. Certainly not in our lifetime.

Proof that Arsenal have signed a TOP CLASS striker

Before you cast any doubt over Olivier Giroud’s ability and argue that the video below is just another ‘youtube compilation’ which makes a player look better than he actually is, please take note that this footage is NOT another compilation with those unnecessary moves and dribbles.

It is in fact a recap of a number of goals and asissts that the Arsenal-bound striker registered last season. Indeed, not all of his 21 goals which lead Montpellier to the Ligue 1 title are even shown, and if you believe a striker is judged on goals, then go ahead and watch how Giroud gets the job done.

For more of this, follow us on Twitter.

Of course, this is no premature statement that the 25-year-old will set the world alight when he arrives at the Emirates Stadium, but his finishing ability surely looks promising. He is certainly more audacious in front of goal than current second choice centre forward Maroune Chamakh.

GOAL: Podolski scores terrific strike to give Arsenal fans more to lick their lips about

http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Football/Pix/pictures/2012/1/2/1325517573036/lukas-podolski-007.jpg

Arsenal’s new boy Lukas Poldoksi registered a moment to remember in today’s match against Denmark.

The 27-year-old set a new record of becoming the youngest ever European footballer to reach 100 caps for his country as he was handed a third straight start for Germany at Euro 2012.

And if that was not enough to prove the pedigree of Arsenal’s latest signing, then his strike which opened the scoring against Bendtner’s Denmark side – his 44th goal for the German national team – showed what a renowned player Lukas is on the big stage.

VIDEO: Squillaci fights Podolski…for Arsenal shirt?

http://arsenalblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/poldiarseanl-293x300.jpgHow times change.

Last summer, Arsenal-bound Lukas Podolski (still not officially a Gunner) had no idea that he would one day be teammates with the likes of Van Persie and Frimpong.

And if Podoloski is to become an Arsenal player as expected, the incident below – similar to the one between Thomas Vermaelen and Robin van Persie – will appear quite ironic.

Even so, with Squillaci out-of-favour at the club and set to leave this summer, he may never be a teammate of Podolski anyway.

While one player is vying for a stay at the club, the other is vying for a move to the club. So can this tussle between Podolski and Squillaci be jokingly called a fight for the Arsenal shirt?

Watch Abou Diaby play football for once as reserves visited Liverpool

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7086/6854281270_21b378fb9d_z.jpgLast week, Red London gave you an update on Abou Diaby’s fight for fitness as he played and scored for the Gunners’ reserves side against Liverpool.

For more of this, join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

The 25-year-old is on course to redeem his future at the club if he can regain is match fitness and Diaby, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, showed in his cameo that he may yet have the ability to play at the top level for Arsenal.

Enjoy the highlights of last week Tuesday’s action from Diaby as he toke the role of a leader with Arsenal’s youngsters.

Was Clichy ever like THIS for Arsenal? Hmm….

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7200/7011605641_2059d569eb_z.jpgHow many times did you get sick of the sight of Gael Clichy making a run towards the byline and whipping in cross after cross?

With the needing physical presence of Arsenal’s front-line, most of those crosses often turned out to be useless too. It usually seemed that Gael Clich did not have too many ideas in attack during his Arsenal days. In fact, his goal scoring record was so poor that it took him until 2008 to score his first ever goal in his career as a footballer. Despite having an injury-ravaged campaign, Gibbs’ total of two goals this season is as many as Clichy netted during his entire career at Arsenal.

For more of this, join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

And his departure to Manchester City paved the way for the more effective Kierran Gibbs and Andre Santos – who don’t just whip in crosses but can also hit the target – to fill the void.

Clichy in truth was not exceptional at the back either and was sometimes a liability in defense, but he hardly atoned for that with any quality going forward.

Maybe the Frenchman will excel better with his routine crosses at City where there are the imposing likes of Yaya Toure, Balotelli and Dzeko to aim at, but it appears that Arsenal have gained far more from that left-back position ever since Clichy left – bar the period when both Gibbs and Santos were injured of course.

Just take a look at Gibbs’ vital strike yesterday which initially unlocked what could have been a stubborn Villa defense. He is definitely not scared to enter the penalty box.

Credit to Kierran!

Look who’s back!: Abou Diaby scores for reserves against Liverpool

Abou Diaby was the star of the show with a goal just a couple of hours ago as the Arsenal Reserves stretched their unbeaten run to six games with a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

The French midfielder was featuring for the club’s second string side in order to regain his match fitness after a season which has been severely plagued by injuries.

Diaby actually made a return from injury against this same Liverpool side earlier this month, before limping off with a hamstring problem as the Gunners won 2-1 against the reds’ senior team at Anfield.

For more of this, join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

That day, the 25-year-old briefly caught the eye with a fine turn and shot only seconds after being introduced, but Diaby managed to find the net today with a close-range effort against Liverpool’s youngsters after Oguzhan Ozyakup had set him up.

The goal secured a point for the Gunners’ reserves after 50 minutes of action before Diaby himself completed his short performance by sitting out the rest of the match after 61 minutes.

That appeared to be the plan after Wenger had confirmed prior to the match that Diaby would be working on his fitness ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Everton.

“Diaby is back but he is with the reserves at Liverpool. He will play for an hour” Wenger said.

Below is a compilation of Diaby’s cameo at Anfield at the start of this month – his last appearance for the first team to date.

Enjoy!

EXCLUSIVE: Watch Park Chu-Young’s fantastic strike yesterday as Arsenal reserves thrashed Baggies

http://www.arsenal.com/assets/_files/images/mar_12/gun__1331757504_Arsenal_Res_v_WBA_510.jpgAndre Santos was supposed to be the star of the show yesterday as he featured for the Gunners’ reserves in their fixture against West Bromwich Albion.

The Brazilian left-back made his return to action after three months out with an injury, playing for 60 minutes as Arsenal’s boys thrashed the Baggies 3-0.

For more of this, join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.

But the man who really stole the show was out-of-favour striker Park Chu-Young who put in yet another impressive performance for the club’s reserves after being paired with fellow ‘flop’ Marouane Chamakh upfront.

The Korean yet again gave manager Arsene Wenger no excuses to deny him playing time  as he unleashed a sublime effort in the first-half to hand the Gunners the first goal of their victory over West Brom on Tuesday night.

Tracking Lukas: See what Podolski did in his latest show for Cologne

http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/07ad3L08Kt95v/439x.jpgNow that all talks suggests that Lukas Podolski is bound for Arsenal this summer, it may be time for those column writers and game readers to try to forge what kind of quality the German will bring to the Emirates stadium.

And being impressed by Podolski will not be unlikely considering the striker’s tally of 16 goals in 22 appearances so far in this campaign for Cologne.

Indeed, Podolski is to Cologne what Van Persie is to Arsenal this season, and the 26-year-old further highlighted his status as the talisman of his childhood club by netting a vital equalizer in their last match to date against Hoffenhaim on Sunday.

The goal itself summed up another aspect of the player along with the skillful threat that we know he has. Despite being just short of six feet tall, the Poland-born man is efficient in the air and does not seem to lack neither the pace nor physical power required of a front-man in the Premier League.
