Club removes Fabregas commemoration in London

Regular visitors to the Emirates stadium may have noticed that a big piece of Cesc Fabregas was still kept in north London despite the Spaniard’s exit in the summer of 2011.

The Ken Friar bridge – which leads to Arsenal’s home ground – always featured a tall banner of the Gunners’ former skipper in honour of his services for the club during his time in the red and white shirt.

But that appreciation of Cesc Fabregas came to an end this morning after Arsenal officials decided to take the banner down, less than a month following the midfielder’s transfer to local rivals Chelsea.

There have been suggestions that Arsenal were reacting to numerous complaints from fans who felt that Jose Mourinho’s new signing did not deserve to be glorified at his old club.

Here was the banner before its removal…

  1. Should have never gone to Chelsea!! Even if we opted not to sign him he should have gone abroad! I´m sure he could have gone to any top team in Italy, Germany or France!! For him to come back to the premiership is a slap in the face! He is a distant memory.

      • Typical Arsenal fan mentality. I hope the other Arsenal players and potential targets see just how fickle they are and how quickly they turn on their idols.

He gave them first choice, he wanted to return to London, Chelsea offered him a good deal, he took it. Good business and logistics.

      • Well, he has the right to go to Chelsea or where ever he wants. However, that choice makes him not eligible to be considered a legend at Arsenal any more. He cannot be actively working against our interests and have his memorial at Arsenal. There are some things that money cannot buy.

      • How could he have wanted to come back?we all remember how he forced a move to Barca.Wenger held back for as much as he could but Cesc was bitching about how Barca was his deam team and all that forgetting that Wenger gave him a chance at first team football as a 17 year old.(which was a rarity at the time managers would not dare put a young boy in a game in the premier league)unlike these days when kids like Raheem are being featured lately weekly. This is thesame Barca that no longer want him. Many young players make the wrong move to certain clubs forgetting that when the manager musical chairs roll in,they could become surplus to requirements (a term used to get rid of players)and this usually affects the players careeers. When you dont play it affects your chances of a call up in the national team.Cesc made that choice so he can no longer remain an Arsenal legend so the poster has to go.Am sure Cesc will accept that as a professional and wouldnt have any negative reaction to our football club.

    • It was only Chelsea and Man united that wanted him. He can’t move to Man united because they are not in Europe although they can match his wages. This implies that it was only Chelsea that matched his financial and football ambitions and of course Barca do not want him.

So,no need to hate him. he wanted to come but we surely do not need him. you can’t pay close to 30m for a player to sit on the bench and sure don’t want to spoil the bond in the team

      • Your right stops where right of others begin. why refer to those who are upset by cesc action as fools. Obviously, you’re not an arsenal supporter but a sympathiser of Chelsea, which explains why you do not see anything wrong with cesc swallow ying his own vomit by going to a club he voluntarily swore he will never go to but his corpse.
Here was our idol, our leader, our darling, our commander etc now pitching camps with our haters. As far as I’m concern, leaving that banner out there a day after it was confirmed that he had signed off with Chelsea was absolute negligence & omission on the part of the Emirate management, knowing how pained his transfer to Chelsea has caused die hard arsenal supporters of which I’m one.

    • What sort of effort might it be can certainly be deem as abysmal in comparison with Cesc effort when he want to force his way out of AFC in 2011.
      Realize the situation “maximum”
      1) Cesc force his way out in 2011
      2) this year actually Barca force him out, so he had no place there anymore,
      3) last year Arsene had been trying to bring him back at AFC but then Cesc say that he don’t want to go to AFC yet, and want to stay at Barca.

Do you think a club should do everything and comply to the wimp of footballer regardless of whatever circumstances ?

And it was wen we needed his Service most that he left… Now that he’s 50% empty and loose form he want us back so that we can remould him again….we count him as a Legend becos he always proclaim to Love….in which he was trying to use us…U Love Arsenal u left them to Barca, and from there to Bitter rival… How many of u can re-marry u wife that left to ur best friend talkless of ur bitter rival or enemy…pls let’s tink deeply…Cesc as gone all wat we need nos is way forward…

    • Henry left after spending the best years of his career at Arsenal, winning numerous trophies and becoming our all time top goalscorer. Legend.

Cesc gave us some great years, but went on strike to force a move to his ‘dream club’. When his dream club didn’t want him anymore he assumed he’d be welcomed back to Arsenal with open arms. Why should Wenger get rid of any of our current midfield, all of whom actually want to play for Arsenal, to accommodate someone who eagerly forced a move away from the club?

I don’t hate Cesc, but don’t consider him an Arsenal legend. I feel sorry for him really, he had it all at Arsenal, lost it at Barca, and has been forced into a move to Chelsea (he once said we could shoot him if he ever wore their shirt) because his wife and kid are based in London. He didn’t pick Chelsea to spite Arsenal, it was the only realistic alternative. I won’t cheer or applaud him when he comes back to Arsenal, but I won’t boo him either. I also won’t complain about Wenger not signing him again, as I wouldn’t have done the same myself.

In appreciation Arsenal fans showered him with love and otjher expressions of appreciation.

Before he signed for our rival we had refused to resign him, indicating thereby that the love story had come to an end! The man, dejected had to seek employment elsewhere.

Is it not a show of manifest arrogance that some Gooners insist that he should not have signed for Chelsea? Can’t we see that the romance has ended, in which case we should wish him well being that it was Arsenal that rejected him?

As for me, I will not employ the same mouth that sang his praise to rain abuses for him.

I love him. True love is eternal!

Good luck Fab, I will miss u!!!

    • Ola, if Fabregas had played for Barcelona against Arsenal, he would not have been booed. I can guarantee you that Robben would be booed by Chelsea fans if he played for Arsenal. Man City or Man U. What you fail to comprehend is that Cesc was the captain of Arsenal and he refused to train to force a transfer to Barcelona. He had 4 years left on his contract and Arsenal did not want to sell him but was becoming a bad influence on the team so he was sold. If you are a true Arsenal fan you would remember that turbulent period in our club history. Nasri left for Man City and the real possiblilty existed that we could have gone into the free fall. The club bounced back and Cesc was found wanting at dream club. Now that he has returned to Chelsea to find his way ,you expect us to treat him as a legend?

      1) sponsorship
      2) north London rivalries
      3) Arsenal will play/fight against this year Cesc will score and assist against us, next year, the year after and years to come.

We should forget about Cesc, yes been a great player for us then, bit he choose to be Blue now, so let forget about him, Goonners do not need to respect his girlfriend decision but at the same time we should not treat him as we treat Cashley Cole :)

However, he never wanted to come back to arsenal until he was forced out of barcelona, despite severel attempts by arsene to bring him back to arsenal. Arsenal is not a club where u leave when things arent going fine, only to want to come back when things arent fine. Its a slap in the face of any big club. We wish him well at chelsea. Here at arsenal, he isnt needed anymore.

  28. you guys are acting very immature about this, we still honor Patrick Vieira for his services to the club despite finishing his career at Man. City. The only way that Cesc would prove to be a traitor is if he scores against us and celebrates that goal, if he refuses to celebrate, the way Ramsey refused to celebrate his goal, in front of the Cardiff fans, last season, that should tell you that Cesc’s heart will always be with Arsenal. Cesc is no triator, he wanted to come back, Wenger told him he would be a benchwarmer to Ozil, and Arsene didn’t want him as a benchwarmer, and chose to let him go, and get signed by Chelsea. until he plays against arsenal, hold you judgement until he score, and see if he’ll celebrate or bow in apology, and just pick up the ball and take it straight to midfield, to start the game quickly. Let cesc’s action determine his feeling, he didn’t celebrate against the Arsenal when they played Barcelona in the Champions league, and i believe cesc will not diss us, when he plays against his former club. Adebayor and Nasri celebrate and taunted us, but i am very sure that Cesc won’t do the same, so please hold your judgement

His stay at the club did not bring anything but rather it was him who was groomed to a star. Now that success is beginning to come to the club,he wants to come and disturb us. We say NO to that, let him go and enjoy his monies at Chelsea. So,Fabregas can not be a legent at our club. Like the rest of his team mates in RVP,Adebayor,Nasri & Clinch, they chose money rather than respect from us – so let it be.
